Seeing a review comparing this brilliant title to Lord of the Rings made me make an account here and post my very first review. I had very high expectations from this series and I believed that it will (like most TV series) absolutely ruin the book. And I couldn't have been more wrong!
Where do I start. The cast is great, though not amazing with one exception - Sean Bean is perfect for the role of cold master of the North, Eddard Stark. The setting, the atmosphere is perfect and not boring at all! Some scenes are just amazing and are exactly as written in the book - for example the scene where they find the wolves, the nature and the dialogs are just as they should be. Now to get to the part most people are interested in: What is this? What can I expect of the series? THIS IS NOT LORD OF THE RINGS.
Now that I got that out, I can continue. The very idea behind the series is a lot different.
It's based around great families on different sides of the world, the stories their members have to tell and the secrets they hide. And there are many secrets, You will have a chance to witness small portion of them in the first episode. If you cannot follow the story just yet, don't worry! It's meant to be like that, you will eventually get to know all the characters and get involved in the story so much you will BEG for next episode just to see what happens. What to expect?
Plots, love, action, war, hatred, quite a few surprises and much much more. All that after the first episode.
I really hope they will not ruin it as the series progress. Conclusion: Do not miss this! Yes YOU complaining that the book is better. And everyone else.
A calmer King Robert mends fences with Ned Stark and reinstates him as the King's Hand despite the objections of his wife Cersei. While he goes hunting with his brother Renly he puts Ned on the throne. A group of farmers complain of having been attacked by a Knight and his army and knowing the culprit orders him stripped of all titles and lands. Ned decides to send Arya and Sansa back to Winterfell for their protection. Sansa in particular doesn't want to leave saying she wants to marry Joffre and have blond babies. Her offhand remark leads Ned back to the book his predecessor was so interested in and he now understands why John Arryn was visiting King Robert's bastard children.
Meanwhile, Daenerys and her brother Viserys have yet another confrontation but this one is settled by Drogo himself. An imprisoned Tyrion Lannister demands to be tried and asks for trial by combat. Goofs While pure gold requires 1,064.18 °C (1,947.52 °F) to melt - a temperature not achievable in a simple campfire - many gold alloys melt at considerably lower temperatures. Pure gold is almost never used in jewelry because it is much too soft, so we can assume Khal Drogo's gold is alloyed. Hence the fact that it melts is not a goof. However, it does melt extremely quickly over the course of just a few seconds and that is not realistic. You cannot even melt the equivalent amount of chocolate that fast in a campfire.
Quotes Robert, Renly, Ser Barristan Selmy and Lancel are on hunting trip. Robert and Renly are armed with boar spears. Lancel carries a wineskin: More wine, your Grace? Robert takes the wineskin and drinks deeply. Then he hands it back to Lancel: What was I saying?: Simpler time.: It was!
You're too young to remember. Wasn't it simpler, Selmy?: It was, Your Grace.: The enemy was right in the open, vicious as you like, all but sending you a bloody invitation. Nothing like today.: It sounds. Crazy Credits The sun tells an important part of the series back story, on its panels. It does so in three segments. First, as the credits start up, the sun depicts how the Targaryens and their dragons conquered Westeros. The second time the sun is shown, a dragon is depicted in a mortal struggle with 3 other animals: The Stag, the Lion and the Wolf.
It is a very literal way to show how Robert Beratheon and Ned Stark rebelled, with Tywin Lannister reluctantly supporting them, in the end. Finally, the third time the sun is shown, before the series title enter the scene, a lion (among other animals) is shown 'kneeling' to a triumphant Stag. Just as Robert was crowned King after winning the war. In this sixth episode we don't see the Wall for another episode. What we do get is we get another good scene with Robb Stark (Richard Madden) and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen). And we finally see what Robb can do in combat. We also get to see Arya with her 'dancing master' Syrio Forel again and she learns a valuable lesson.
Maisie Williams and Miltos Yerolemou are, once again, fabulous together. Ser Jorah and Viserys share a good scene too and Viserys comes across, for just a moment, as sympathetic. Just for a moment.
And we see Ned make a shocking discovery. My favourite scene of the season so far was Tyrions confession, who didn't want to know the end to Tyrion's story about taking a mule and a honeycomb into a brothel?? Tyrion played to perfection by Peter Dinklage and Arya played by Maisie Williams and dare I say it, noble Ned Stark played by Sean Bean (who I stated in an earlier review, I'm not a fan of him or any of his work) are easily my favourite characters so far.
I need to give special mention to Jerome Flynn, who's character still does not have a name on the show (but IMDb says is Bronn) who I'm really enjoying too. One scene that puzzled me, was Joffrey's sudden apology to Sansa, 3 episodes after we saw Cersei advising her son to do just that.
We do get to see just how naive Sansa (Sophie Turner) is. Turner plays the scene very well going from being rude to her Septa Mordane (a superb Susan Brown) to smitten the minute Joffery arrives. All I can think of, is it tied to a scene following shortly where Eddard announced he was sending the girls back to Winterfell, and Sansa's pleas to stay, she may have been happy to leave had Joffery not apologised. There is a nice moment in that scene that is just a look between Sean Bean and Maisie Williams as Sansa says 'I don't want someone brave, handsome and strong. I want Joffery' it really showed the chemistry between the two. Possibly the best episode so far!

Main article: The soundtrack to Game of Thrones was originally to be composed. On February 2, 2011, only ten weeks prior to the show's premiere, it was reported that Warbeck had left the project and had been commissioned to write the music instead. The music supervisor of Game of Thrones first suggested Djawadi to Benioff and Weiss as the replacement for Warbeck, and although Djawadi was reluctant as he had other commitments at that time, they managed to persuade Djawadi to accept the project. To give the series its own distinctive musical identity, according to Djawadi, the producers asked him not to use musical elements such as flutes or solo vocals that had already been successfully used by other major fantasy productions.
He mentioned that a challenge in scoring the series was its reliance on dialogue and its sprawling cast: on several occasions already-scored music had to be omitted so as not to get in the way of dialogue. Djawadi said that he was inspired to write the main title music by an early version of the series's computer-animated title sequence. The title music is reprised as a global theme in the rest of the soundtrack, initially infrequently and as part of the theme of individual characters, then in full towards the end of season 1 during particularly important scenes. Reception Critical response Anticipation for the series was described by various media outlets as very high, with a dedicated fan base closely following the show's development. New York Post's Linda Stasi gave Thrones 3.5/4 stars stating, 'The art direction, acting and incredible sets are as breathtaking as the massive scope of the series'.
Many critics praised for his portrayal of, with Ken Tucker from stating, '.if Dinklage doesn't get an for his clever, rude Tyrion Lannister, I'll be gobsmacked' and Mary McNamara from the Los Angeles Times stating, 'If the man doesn't win an Emmy, heads should certainly roll'. (Picture: FilmMagic/FilmMagic) Can you believe that season six of Game Of Thrones is just around the corner? The fantasy series is set to return to HBO and Sky Atlantic on April 24-25 and the cast turned out for the premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Maisie Williams, Alfie Allen, Lena Heady, Sophie Turner, Emilia Clarke, John Bradley and Kristian Nairnwere were among the original cast members in attendance at the TCL Chinese Theatre to see the opening episode of season six, The Red Woman.
It’s been five years since they gathered for the season one premiere, so we thought we’d see just how much they’v changed in half a decade Maisie Williams (Arya Stark).
